New assignment,  Letter to multimedia students of tomorrow
This is due next week

Dear Students,

I’ve had a lot of fun, and learned more than a few things in Multimedia Class this year.
I’ve seen some great student work, some innovation and creativity, and just plain fun stuff.   I’m going to still ask for a few more things out you though.

Here’s your chance to tell it how it is, to shoot from the hip… Lets point out the good, the bad and the ugly, or the positives and the negatives, the pros and cons.

Open a Word Document –
Title it:  (you know you can select, copy and paste this stuff)

5-25-12 GNU Computing, Open Source OS

Note the new page to the left labeled ” LINUX_OS_GNU”

We been using public license or GNU software all year, but we’ve depended upon licensed software for the operating system or the OS.  The OS we use everyday at the school is Windows XP Pro.  We also use the Microsoft Office Suite with Word , PowerPoint, and Publisher for a variety of daily computing tasks.  These licensed Microsoft programs require purchase of a license to run them.

There are publicly licensed (free) alternatives.  One to give a little thought to is UBUNTU.
Windows Vs. Linux

If you’ve an old CPU in the garage, a virus plagued machine which is now effectively dead, you could start fresh with a brand new, state of the art GNU OS called UBUNTU

Video Review of Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin
note how they mention GIMP and Audacity!

We’ll do a tiny bit of research on this program, and we can make it available on a CD for anyone who might want to try such an experiment on their home computer.

:E FILE Assignment:

What is the best thing, or coolest thing you’ve created in Multimedia this year?  What would you like to share?

Find it,  and save a copy of it as your last name-share

Think Multimedia Show and Tell,  all must have a file to share, all content must be appropriate.
We will probably have only half a minute (30 seconds) to look at each file, image or presentation, so be aware of the time if it is media that must play.

Don’t have that one thing — then think about what it might be, and get to steppin!    Need help, then ask!
Build an animated  gif,  or a pivot.  Animate your name or the school or multimedia course banner,  JUST DO IT!

OTHER INFORMATION
–We have GNU CDs  for those that ask for one, and think they’ll use them.

–Think about saving your files/ your creations.
Ways to do this include:
1) USB Flash Drive (or other portable drive/ memory card (must be your own) — the best way
2) Emailing them to yourself
3) Having a “CD folder” setup on your H: drive, and trying to write the files to a CD– this is the worst way, especially if it requires my help to do it!
